At least Sister is kind enough to let me have a day off on New Year's Eve.
I pity the Doctor on-call. He was hoping the nurses would throw a countdown to Christmas party.
Sorry doc, we don't, um, count down to Christmas.
So what the hell did I do today?
At least I have a life after work.
9 patients today, not so bad. I was hoping it would stay that way till my night is over.
Any hoots, I met up with my beloved Ernest as usual.
We had the extremely cholesterol building food -- prata. Delicious yet unhealthy. What a price to pay.
And after which it was just the usual cabbing home.
I watched V for Vendetta again, for like the umpteenth time.

I can practically memorise 89% of the show -- verbatim, mind you.
Everything that comes out of V's mouth is so Shakespeare.
For example, the scene in his house where Evy asked if he stole butter from that tyrant Adam Sutler, his reply was, "I dare do all that may becomes a man, who dares more is none."
That particular line was from Macbeth.
And then there's my favourite line of all, "If you are looking for the guilty, you need only to look into a mirror."
Classic.
If only everyone can speak with such eloquence instead of mediocre English.
Apparently most Singaporeans' command of English is bad enough that our councils have to crack their brains, and come up with a Speak Good English program.
I have to be honest, we are only known for math and science, not language.
I am of course, proud that Singlish is being considered unique -- in a way.
But not the excessive use of it. It gets on my nerves to hear people converse with limited lexicon.
Is nice the only word you can come up with?
"Oh, the food at XXX cafe is so nice."
"The movie is nice."
"The drink is nice."
"Nice song."
Last I checked, there are more than 10 words you can substitute nice with.
If you need help, here's what the thesaurus can offer (just so you dimwits know, thesaurus is not a dictionary):
admirable, approved, attractive, considerable, delightful, fair, favourable, fine and dandy, inviting, lovely, peachy, pleasant, seemly, et cetera.
Ain't that enough?
So the next time you want to comment on something, try this instead:
"That movie was spectacular."
"This drink is fine and dandy."
"Lovely song!"
The world would be a better place. Trust.
Imagine how everything would sound if everyone can talk like the Brits most of the time. I'd want to wake up to take the train for nothing.
Of course, Singlish is inevitable.
I confess that I blurt out in Singlish sometimes. Like I said, inevitable.
Instead of saying, "so what do you think we should go about doing this?", I say, "so how?"
Saves time. As long as the message is sent across, I guess that's fine.
Inevitable.
Well, it seems like its time to end my post.
Till then
Ellis
